What is a reactive stain? Reactive stain is composed of a combination of dyes and raw materials that react with tannins in the wood. The reaction with the tannins in the wood creates an aged and natural finish. The reactive stains work best on oak wood but also produce beautiful results on other species.
After the reaction time, the reactive stain should be finished with oil or waterborne finishes.

- Apply reactive stain with a brush, squirt bottle or spray gun. Apply evenly in the direction of the wood fiber and even out afterward.
- Smooth with a brush or a mop.
- Reactive stain can “pop” the grain, so it is recommended that you smooth the surface after the full reaction time with a buffing pad.
- Remove all dust and finish with an oil finish from the Ciranova® product line.
Caution

Finishing
- Reactive stain can "pop" the grain, so we recommend that you buff out or smooth the surface after the full reaction time with a buffing pad.
- Remove all dust from the surface.
- Finish with an oil or waterborne finish.
Reactive Stain only produces color. It needs to be protected with a finishing product. For on-site finishing, we recommend Ciranova Hardwaxoil Magic.
You can use a waterborne finish if it is sprayed on, which may be applied by professionals or for industrial applications. Waterborne finishes, such as varnishes cannot be rolled or brushed on, because it can partly dissolve the color.
